Crowns & Bridges

Trauma, tooth decay and gradual wear are all contributing factors to the deterioration of tooth health.

If you have damaged teeth or missing teeth, crowns and bridges may be the most suitable treatment option for you.

Advantages of replacing missing teeth include:

  • Improved appearance
  • Improved function (chewing and speech)
  • Prevent teeth moving
  • Prevent damaging stress to the surrounding teeth.

Crowns

Ceramic crowns from Brite Dental are strong, long lasting and look great. Made from a detailed impression mould, they are colour matched, which makes them virtually indistinguishable from your natural teeth. A crown can successfully restore strength and function as well as aesthetically enhance your smile by fitting precisely over a tooth.

A crown is placed over a single tooth that has weakened due to root canal therapy or had severe decay, whereas a bridge can replace missing teeth.

Bridges

A dental bridge consists of several false teeth joined together and secured by crowns placed on healthy natural teeth on either side of the gap.

Like a crown, a bridge is custom-made in a laboratory from detailed template moulds. At this stage, the right shade for your bridge is determined, so that it matches your natural surrounding teeth. Often a temporary bridge will be placed while your permanent bridge is being fabricated.

At your second appointment, your temporary bridge – if one was placed – will be removed and the permanent one assessed for fit and comfort and bite before it is secured in place with a specially formulated bonding agent.

Care of your crown and bridge

It is essential to care for your crown and bridge as much as your natural teeth. Although they are made from an artificial material, the health of your surrounding teeth and gums will affect the longevity of your restorations.

With the correct care, good oral hygiene and scheduling check-up appointments every six months with the Bright Dental team, crowns and bridges can last 10-15 years.

Our team is available to talk with you in detail about crowns and bridges at your next appointment.
